The Axel Studded Buckle Sandals are a flat sandal with a bit of attitude. Silver studs run along the strap and a buckle fastening sits at the ankle, which gives the shoe some hardware without tipping it into biker territory. The rest is deliberately plain, a low flat sole and a black finish that goes with everything already in the wardrobe.

Black is the only colour, which makes this a simple decision. Sizing runs 36 through 41. The ankle buckle means the fit adjusts properly rather than relying on the strap sitting in exactly the right place, and the flat sole makes them walkable on cobbles, grass and city pavement alike. They are the sandal you can actually stand in for hours.

Wear the Axel with denim and a plain t-shirt to let the studs do the work, with a floaty summer dress to cut the sweetness, or with cropped black trousers for something more graphic. They are the least fussy thing in this collection and quietly the most versatile. A good everyday pair from Marlowe & Rue. Wipe with a soft damp cloth.
